Before and After

Moray

For shopping, Logie Steading just south of Forres is a nice little cluster of independent shops, local food produce, art gallery, cafe etc. Around you can also find some lovely easy walks.

Brodie Countryfare is great for local produce (including lots of gin etc) and also Scottish home stuff, also a cafe. Nearby Brodie Castle is good for lovely walks round their gardens.

Those who stay extra days and looking adrenaline boost: excellent white water rafting in Moray. 25 mins south from Burgie house. Ace Adventures do rafting and cliff jumping. Becky and Jani went rafting there last summer, brilliant rapids!!!

Elgin

Gordon & MacPhail for whisky, Becky's employer. Orrin for posh dinner, Drouthy Cobbler for good pub food and Spice Tandoori, an Indian restaurant, in an old church.

Smaller places close by

Nairn is a nice little town for a wander around. Findhorn, a small village on beach (recommend Torta for coffee/cake) but also very interesting is the Findhorn Foundation. Set up in the 1960s, very flower-power, eco village. For eating, you may consider on the coast near Burghead: Bootleggers Bar & Grill. Also Catch 79 in Lossiemouth. In the nearby Forres, the Bonnie Beastie pub and Speedy Pepper are supposed to be good. Something else, Wester Hardmuir fruit farm on the road to Nairn has a nice little farm shop and does amazing home made ice cream cones.

Further away

Anyone driving and going past Pitlochry, Jani can highly recommend The House of Bruar for tad shopping and lunch. They have casual seafood shack outside as well that serves delicious lobster rolls etc. It is widely acknowledged as Scotland's most prestigious independent stores.

For those flying in/out of Aberdeen, if you want somewhere to eat or grab coffee - Forest Farm the Organic Dairy is 10 minutes from the airport, does absolutely FABULOUS home made gelato, coffee etc. Or for something more substantial, stop at Marshall’s farm shop just nearby.
